Geocaching Merit Badge Companion
Geocaching Merit Badge Companion is a printable workbook that walks Scouts through the Geocaching merit badge one requirement at a time. It follows the badge requirements as revised in January 2019. Each page matches a requirement, so a Scout always knows what to work on and a counselor knows what to look for. The pages are study notes. A Scout earns each requirement by showing or explaining it to a registered merit badge counselor. Disclaimer: This is an unofficial study aid and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Scouting America. It paraphrases the requirements. Always check the current requirements and the official merit badge pamphlet before signing off.

Student teams become geologists for a day. They study real rocks, sort them into igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic, test their hardness with a scratch test, check for limestone with vinegar, and measure layers and grains with a ruler and hand lens. They record what they find in a field notebook, use an ID key to name each rock, and finish by logging their findings the way EarthCache explorers do. About 60 minutes, for grades 3 to 6.
