Decode the secret language of geocaching. From Muggles to CITO, we've got you covered!

Common Terms

People

Muggles

Non-geocachers. People who aren't playing the game. We stay "stealthy" so they don't move the cache!

Treasure

SWAG

"Stuff We All Get." Small toys and trinkets inside caches for trading.

Essentials

Logbook

The paper scroll you sign to prove you found the treasure. Every cache has one!

Sizes

Nano

A tiny fingernail-sized cache, usually magnetic. These are the hardest ones to spot!

Special Items

Trackable

Items with special codes (like Travel Bugs) that move from cache to cache to reach a goal.

Location

GZ

"Ground Zero." The exact spot where the coordinates lead you.

The Codes & Acronyms

TFTC

"Thanks For The Cache." A polite note left for the person who hid it.

DNF

"Did Not Find." Logging a DNF helps the owner know if a cache is missing or just really tricky.

BYOP

"Bring Your Own Pen." Used when a cache is too small to hold a writing tool.

CITO

"Cache In Trash Out." Our eco-mission to pick up litter while we hunt for treasures.

LPC

"Lamp Post Cache." A common hiding spot found in parking lots under the "skirt" of a pole.

TNLN

"Took Nothing, Left Nothing." When you sign the log but don't trade any SWAG.
